A GUIDE TO A MORE PERSONAL GIFT
Choosing a photo for your lithophane.
A lithophane turns the light and dark parts of a photograph into a picture revealed by backlighting. Choosing a clear source photo gives the design a better starting point.
Start with a clear original
Use the original photo where possible. Avoid heavily compressed screenshots or images that have been repeatedly forwarded. If a face is blurred in the original, the preview cannot recreate missing detail.
Keep the person or moment easy to see
Choose a photo where the subject is well lit and distinct from the background. A simple background can make a portrait easier to read. Very dark shadows, bright glare and small distant faces can make important details harder to show.
Think about the frame
A close portrait and a wide family photograph need different proportions. Keep space around faces and avoid cropping important details at the edges. We will discuss the final panel and frame before making the gift.
Try the preview, then discuss the result
Our demo creates a simulated warm backlight effect and shows your photograph with a stand. It does not calculate printable thickness or generate an STL file. The final result also depends on the chosen material, printing and lighting.
Your demo photo stays in your browser. It is not automatically sent to the studio, attached to an enquiry or stored on our server.
